The PlayStation launched in Japan in December 1994 and made its U.S. debut in September 1995, receiving widespread praise and achieving remarkable sales. Iconic titles like Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil 2, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, among others, stood out. The PlayStation felt tailor-made for me, offering more than just simple games with characters jumping on mushrooms; it had titles that required thought and strategy. I remember sitting with friends, trying to figure out how to defeat bosses or advance through levels. With the internet still in its infancy and not yet integrated into gaming like it is today, playing with friends meant they had to come over to your house, there was a community emerging.
